Can you believe that it’s already two weeks since we returned after Easter – time certainly flies when you’re having fun. Before we know it, an election will be upon us, Year 6 will be in France and sports days will be run – all in the lovely summer sunshine!
Before Easter, 46 children in Year 6 took their English Speaking Board Exams. This involves learning a poem by heart, reading a passage from a book and presenting a topic of their choice to an external examiner. It’s always fascinating to listen to the talks – this year they ranged from elephants to soay sheep; from the Vulcan Bomber to a Swedish Christmas. Always such a diverse range. Twenty two children achieved a distinction – a fantastic result and something that the whole school is proud of. Many thanks to the teachers and parents who helped to prepare the children so thoroughly.
On Wednesday, 24 children (along with Mr Clark and Mrs Hughes) woke at the crack of dawn and travelled to Shropshire for the ISA Triathlon. Despite the journey and a lot of waiting around, the children were fantastic ambassadors for the school, both through their efforts in the events and the way that they conducted themselves throughout the day. The girls managed to retain the trophy they won last year and the boys finished in second place. Thank you to the PE department, especially Mr Clark, for the thorough preparation of the children for the event. Thanks too to Mrs Allsop who undertook a training session with the children last Friday.
On Friday afternoon, a team from the school will be taking part in a maths quiz at Gayhurst School – good luck to the children involved and I am looking forward to hearing how we got on.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and that the sun shines.
