Home » Year 5 learn to write adventure stories
Year 5 have been learning how to write an adventure story, a genre, that in many ways, was perhaps more popular during the 1950s and 1960s. We have explored all the wonderful possibilities for settings, from jungles, deserts, rivers (Swallows and Amazons) to the Antarctic! We have watched some clips, in which children go on an adventure either literally, or in their imaginations. The children learnt how often the story would start with a dull and boring day and turn into something unexpected. We gathered vocabulary suitable for excitement and fear and practised writing a good opening, to engage the reader.
“ Being fourteen was hard for Max – everyday was tough for him. He wanted to be the next world famous explorer, but for now he was stuck with the world’s most boring parents.”
“ Max thought nothing exciting would ever happen to him.. but that where he was wrong!”
They have also been practising characterisation and how to infer important character traits through behaviour and interaction with other characters.
Wonderful stories have been produced so please do talk to them about adventures you may have had and any stories you may have read as a child.
