Gateway pupils have had a busy and excellent last week of their half term. We have supported many pupils to strive for success in many different areas from classroom based success, drama and music success to sporting successes.
The range of activities they have been involved in is staggering and is a great example of the breadth of our curriculum and the commitment of all the staff. Last Saturday eleven of our senior pupils, accompanied and prepared by Mrs O’Hare, wowed the judges at the Chesham Arts Festival. They all received distinctions and three Gateway pupils took medal positions. Then on Tuesday over fifty pupils from our senior choir took part in the Young Voices concert at the O2. This is such an impressive venue and a great opportunity for the choir to join with other schools and sing together. Thanks to Mrs Izard and the team of staff who accompanied her for this long day. Then on Thursday evening we enjoyed another successful Music Tea, showcasing the talents of fifteen pupils on a variety of instruments from oboe to drums, and we enjoyed hearing from Mr Wallace and his Trumpet Club. These events are such lovely occasions enabling us to provide a stage for our budding musicians along with a small and very supportive audience.
To crown our Creative Arts week each class has had our chosen Take One Picture painting, An experiment on a bird in an air pipe by Joseph Wright, unveiled to them and this morning the whole school enjoyed Mrs Mock’s assembly telling us a little more about the painting and the artist. The children have amazed us with their creative ideas and probing questions about the painting. We are hoping that many families will be able to visit the National Gallery during half term and show their children the painting for real. You will be amazed at their observations and ideas!
I am delighted and very proud to announce that Mrs Izard’s Chamber Choir have once again been selected from many hundreds of school and youth choirs to compete at the National Choral Competition at the Royal Festival Hall in March. A lot of hard work ahead for these talented pupils in the next few weeks but what an experience for them!
I hope all Gateway families have a lovely half term wherever they are spending it and I look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 19 February.
