Supporting Others

At Gateway we encourage children to behave in a natural and responsible way, always mindful of the needs of others. We run a rolling leadership system at the school where all children are given responsibilities within their house and have the opportunity to develop peer leadership skills throughout their time at Gateway.

From Reception children join one of four houses: Barnardo, Brunel, Jenner and Seacole, named after famous Victorian figures. Gateway’s House System not only gives children the opportunity to compete in a healthy environment, but also gives them a wider sense of family, belonging, loyalty and pride beyond their class and year group.

Gateway School has a longstanding commitment to charity work, and we are extremely proud of our children’s sensitivity and thoughtfulness towards others who are less fortunate in life. Read our latest charity news here.

Every term we run at least one event to raise money for national and local charities that are nominated by the school. Typical charity work or events might include:

  • A mufti day when children pay to wear their own clothes to school
  • Filling a shoe box with toys and books for disadvantaged children in Slovenia
  • Making food baskets for the local outreach centre
  • Singing at a local care home
