Preschool - celebrating Diwali

We have had a busy week in Preschool this week, with lots of celebrations and events to keep us busy. The children have been learning about Remembrance day and Diwali. We made poppies using hand prints and displayed them in our home corner and then talked about what the poppies are for and why we remember. Some of the children knew that they were to remember the soldiers and how they helped people.

We learned about how some families at Preschool celebrate Diwali. We made rangoli patterns and talked about the story of Rama and Sita. We enjoyed making diya lamps to take home, and decorated them with lots of glitter!

We used chalks to make rangoli patterns on our doorstep to welcome our visitors, using images of rangoli patterns, we copied these onto the paving in the garden and on the floor in the preschool room. The children were very creative and took time to make beautiful designs. We also learned about henna and how people decorate their hands. The children were very interested in this and we practiced creating henna designs on paper and on our own hands too.
