Preschool children enjoy the festive preparations

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in Preschool! We have been very busy with all of our festive preparations, including lots of art and craft activities, decorating our Christmas grotto and rehearsing for our Christmas show. I think staff and children alike have gone home a bit sparkly after all of our festive activities! The children have been brilliant at remembering the song words and we hope you have been getting a sneak preview of this as your child practises at home! A big thank you to Monty’s mummy who popped in to teach us all some Makaton signs to accompany our songs. The children really enjoyed having someone new working with us during circle time! It demonstrated the importance of welcoming visitors into Preschool to show us new skills, tell us different stories and provide new experiences for our children. Learning all about different ways of life and varied occupations is a key part of Understanding the World in the EYFS curriculum. So if you, your partner, or a grandparent has a story, skill or job that you would be happy to share with us in the new year, please speak to one of the Preschool team and we can arrange a time for you to pop in and join us! We know the children would gain so much from this, so please do let us know.

The children have also been very busy writing letters to Santa! Children had to think about what they might like for Christmas and with support, they drew pictures of anticipated presents and labelled them with initial sounds. A few children could segment words and write them, with support. The result has been wonderful; showing the children’s vivid imaginations and creativity. Some children even talked about previous sightings of Santa as we wrote our letters! This was so lovely to hear. Children are completing the experience of letter-writing by putting their letter into an envelope, applying a stamp and posting it to Santa. I wonder if we will receive any replies in the next couple of weeks?!

We look forward to seeing lots of you at the Christmas Fayre over the weekend and at our Performance of ‘Strictly Christmas’ next Friday at 10 am. Thank you for the lovely costumes we have already received and thank you for your continued support.
