Preschool enjoy 'Room on the Broom'

It has been a busy week in Preschool getting ready for sports day. The children have come back well rested, ready for our final summer term. We have heard all about their lovely trips and adventures spent with family and friends and are ready to settle back into Preschool routine. Following from our recent topic about London, the children have shown more interest in exploring the world map and different countries. Sienna was keen to find Spain on the map after her recent holiday. Billy also impressed us by finding England on the map. This opportunity allowed us to explore our wider environment, reflecting on where we live. At home you might want to encourage your children to look at different flags in preparation for our World Cup celebration.

This week the children have enjoyed rhyming whilst reading a variety of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler books. They had the opportunity to talk about what an author does reflecting on the books we read and have started thinking about their own titles and developing story ideas thinking about beginning, middle and end. We will continue to add detail to our story, developing ideas and pictures throughout the term. Our Room on the Broom event has been enjoyed by all, with little imaginary witches flying all around Preschool, creating potions and lotions.

Next week, we will continue with our sports day practice, exploring the different events and developing the children’s confidence. In Maths we will be learning about 3D shapes around the environment, comparing them to famous landmarks and constructing model structures, using relevant shapes. The children will have the opportunity to look for shapes in the environment comparing similarities and differences. At home you might want to talk about everyday shapes when out and about. Our rhyme of the week will be ‘ten green bottles.’
