Preschool enjoy plenty… | Independent Primary School Buckinghamshire

Preschool enjoy plenty of outdoor learning

There was another change of weather this week, which meant that children in Preschool were able to enjoy lots of outdoor learning! Activities included: exploring the mud kitchen, throwing and catching skills, minibeast hunts and lots of water play where children continued to explore volume and capacity. As the summer term continues, please ensure that your child brings a named sunhat to school and apply a 12 hour suncream before school.

During their outdoor play, children found their own very hungry caterpillar in the Preschool garden! They were very interested in the way it moved along the ground and the different colours on its body. This led us to going on a minibeast hunt where we took clipboards, tally charts and pencils to record all of the insects that we saw. William P showed great interest in this; leading his own group around the field to accurately record the minibeasts they found. At the end, William was able to use his tally chart recording to tell the class how many insects they had found. Ants were definitely the most popular! However we did see a worm and a butterfly too. Children are also beginning to notice seasonal changes and signs of summer. Zulaikha said: ‘We can see all the leaves up” Poppy said: “We see butterflies.” This interest can be encouraged at home in the garden and on trips to the park.

Please do upload Tapestry posts showing your child’s interests at home. We are really keen to see photos of children joining in with family celebrations and traditions as we continue to talk about what makes us all unique.

As the summer term lends itself to lots of outdoor/ water based play; please ensure that your child comes to Preschool with spare clothes in their bag. We kindly ask that if your child has recently has a toilet accident and borrowed some Preschool spare clothes, that you return them as soon as possible. This enables us to change other children promptly, with ease.

We would love to see some Tapestry posts showing your child’s interests at home. We are really keen to see photos of children joining in with family celebrations and traditions as we continue to talk about what makes us all unique.

Next week, we look forward to using our new indoor and outdoor roleplay areas focussing on the garden centre!

Thank you for your continued support,

The Preschool Team.
