Preschool learn about The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The Preschool children have been learning all about story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar this week (following on from Tom B’s interest in the caterpillar life cycle) He showed us amazing pictures of his own caterpillars and butterflies that he looked after at home! This has led to children asking questions about how the life cycle occurs. We read the story, drew and painted pictures of caterpillars, with lots of lovely detail including legs, eyes and antennae in them. We talked about the days of the week, sang the days in order and tried to match pictures from the story in the correct sequence. Children have been keeping an eye out for caterpillars in the garden, with no luck yet! Perhaps this interest could be continued at home over the bank holiday weekend.

A huge thank you to Marnie and Emily’s mummys this week, who have led afternoon gardening sessions in Preschool. The children loved exploring all the scents in our new herb garden. Some children have helped us to create labels for each of the plants (so do look out for these next week) Children are very keen to help to look after the plants and we will be designating ‘daily gardener’ roles to children who will help Preschool staff to water and tend to garden.

Next week, we will continue to look at growth, healthy food and life cycles. Children will be able to enjoy new role play areas including ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar Cafe’. Please do ensure that your child brings in their book bag daily, as this enables us to update their bag with new phonics sounds and homework. Thank you for your continued support. Have a lovely bank holiday weekend!
