Preschool - Number… | Independent Primary School Buckinghamshire

Preschool - Number formation, rhymes and flags

Gateway Preschool has started the new term with enthusiasm, energy and great big smiles! The sunny weather has provided us with the opportunity to spend a lot of time in the garden and make the most of the school site. From PE lessons on the court, to exploring Forest School, we even went on a shape hunt throughout Gateway’s grounds. Inside, we have been focusing on getting to know our classroom, new friends and new members of staff. Each day has started with circle time to say good morning, share our stories from Tapestry and discuss the day ahead.

We have been spending time investigating numbers and practising their formation. Our big focus at the moment is learning what different numbers look like and what their names are, before moving to matching the correct amount of objects to the symbols.

Between phonics sessions, nursery rhymes have been at the heart of our literacy lessons for the first few weeks and have inspired some wonderful artwork. We’ve made sheep, rainbows and incy-wincy spiders to illustrate some of our favourite tunes.

Our regular visits from the Specialist teachers are a real treat too! In French we have been creating French flags and engrossing ourselves in the rich culture France has to offer, whilst music has given us the opportunity to express ourselves through a new, noisy medium and begin to play different instruments and PE is jam-packed with throwing, catching, racing and jumping.

Going forward for this half term, we are going to be looking at what makes us, us in our topic ‘Marvellous Me’. We will discuss our families, how our bodies work and how best to express our feelings, through song, stories and what we do best - playing!
