Preschool - Rainbow bright!

Preschool has had a very busy and fun-filled start to the new half term. We have started a new theme ‘Rainbow Bright’ where we will be exploring colours through a variety of different celebrations this term. We have focused on fireworks and bonfires exploring Bonfire Night and also Diwali. The children have created beautiful firework rockets using shapes and tissue paper. We have been learning about how people around the world celebrate Diwali and designed our own Rangoli patterns, as well as clay diyas! This festival is such an exciting topic to explore with our children as they are able to have so much fun creating with materials whilst learning about the differences between celebrations around the world.

Our story ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear’, which has a strong colour theme throughout, has been our focus this week. The children have enjoyed learning about the different animals in the story and looking at the ‘real’ colours of animals around the world. We have made our own characters, coloured them and cut them out to reflect our understanding of the story. The children especially loved moving around like the animals in the book! We are excited to move onto ‘Elmer’ next, which not only explores colours but also links to our PSHE topic of ‘Celebrating Difference’.

The youngest children in the preschool have settled back into school routine really well and been looking at their favourite colours and identifying the colours in the world around them. They have also been busy making clay divas and decorating them with glitter and jewels as well as using paint to create magnificent firework pictures.

We’re very much looking forward to this half-term as it is always super busy and packed with lots of fun (and messy) activities!
