Preschool - sparking curiosity and having a voice

The start of this half term has been crammed full of fun and excitement in Preschool as we start to prepare for our magical Christmas performance. All the children are taking their roles in their stride and have shown great determination in learning the songs, actions and dances. We cannot wait to showcase this to you.

The children have really enjoyed having a voice in what they would like to learn about and have taken on real ownership of this. This has enabled us, as educators. to get to know them further and extend their learning opportunities during activities that interest them and that they are curious about. We have had some amazing contributions to this and it has been lovely to see their ideas come to life.

We have been spending time recapping on our phonics from the start of term to really embed these new skills and extend what they already know. We have ventured out around the school and into Great Missenden on sound walks to learn and discover all the sounds in our environment.

Each afternoon has had its own focus - from interactive stories, making bread to share with our families inspired by our story of Little Red Hen, thinking about why we are special and what makes other people special and Marvellous Maths where we enjoyed making our own clocks, learning how to tell the time and participating in a game of ‘what’s the time Mr Wolf?’

During circle times each morning children have had the opportunity to share their weekend adventures and have spoken about their families during our diversity topics. This term we have also learnt about Diwali and Mrs Shah made us some traditional sweets to try at snack time and fireworks where we each made a jar of our own amazing fireworks. We look forward to learning more about Thanksgiving and celebrating Christmas. If there are any festivals you celebrate at home please let us know so we can include these in our up and coming planning.

Our specialist sessions are a weekly highlight for the children and create such a buzz in the Preschool room. In French with Madame Morrall we have been learning numbers 1-6 and colours with the help of a very friendly parrot. Mr Mitchener delivers a noisy treat as we experiment with tapping, banging and shaking and in PE, with Mr Bradley and Mr Roberts, we have been participating in pirate themed games, colour matching games as well as listening and attention in teamwork exercises.

We look forward to sharing some more of our learning opportunities with you through our tapestry platform. Please continue to add to your child’s profiles as we love seeing, and sharing, the snapshots with them and the Preschool class.
