Reception - People who help us

Reception has settled quickly back into working hard after a lovely restful Christmas break. Our topic for this half term is ‘People Who Help Us,’ and the children have been learning all about people who help us in our community. We have welcomed visitors from different professions. Our first visitor was an Art Therapist who taught us all about our emotions and gave us strategies to help us to feel calm. The children had great fun creating a calming jar which they can look at when they feel as though they might need a calming moment. Reception felt very relaxed after the visit and had lots to talk about.

We then had a visit from a lady who works with the RNLI who taught us all about what the Lifeboats, Lifeguards and Coastguards do to help keep people safe whilst they’re at or by the sea. The children were lucky enough to try on some of the life jackets and waterproofs that the RNLI might wear.

Our latest visit was from our very own Lollipop Lady, which we found out are now called Crossing Patrollers. The children learnt how important it is to make sure that they are with a grown up whilst crossing the road and they even got the opportunity to hold the lollipop!

The learning hasn’t stopped there though! The children are so keen to find out more about people who help us that they have used the iPads to research and have written letters to invite different professions into school so that they can find out more about what they do to help us.
