Year 1 started their week by swimming in pyjamas
The week started with us in our pyjamas! This was for our swim safety lesson where we learnt what it felt like to wear clothes in the water to prepare us for an emergency. We learnt how to lie on our backs and catch our breath before trying to swim to a safe place.
In English we have been learning facts about houses from the past. We have been looking at houses throughout history, including Iron Age, 18th Century, Victorian Toll and Post war prefab houses. We enjoyed creating non-fiction books about houses and included some of the facts we have learnt.
In Maths we continued our learning on weight and capacity. We had fun estimating the amount of water a container can hold before carrying out the test. We have learnt some great new words this week; full and empty for capacity and heavier, lighter and balanced for weight. We were able to apply these to reasoning problems, working out comparative capacities.
