Year 2 have a whizzpopping week

It has been a whizzpopping week in Year 2 as we have continued to discover the magic of Roald Dahl. We have been learning all about Roald Dahl’s made up language, ‘gobblefunk’, and the children even created their own ‘gobblefunk’ animals. Continuing to read Billy and the Minpins, we have been thinking about how Roald Dahl builds tension in his writing by using short sentences and exclamation marks, and the children have been trying their own hands at creating tension in their writing.

In Maths, we have continued to focus on number and place value. This week, we have been comparing and ordering 2-digit numbers, before practising counting in steps of 2, 3, 5 and 10. In Topic, we spent some time exploring our school grounds and using old photographs of Gateway School to prompt discussion about what has changed and what has stayed the same. The children demonstrated some very impressive comparison skills and particularly enjoyed seeing where the stables used to be. Continuing with our theme of exploring Gateway School, in Forest School the children hunted around the field and woodland area, collecting as many different natural materials as they could find and sticking them onto a leaf. They look fantastic!
