Year 2 - investigating multiplication, division and writing clear instructions

Year 2 has been learning all about how to give and write effective instructions this week. We started off instructing our partners on the tricky art of making a paper chain before moving on to following instructions in order to make a ‘rocking robin’. Using this experience, we then created our own set of instructions, being sure to include imperative verbs and clear, concise commands.

In Maths, we have started to investigate multiplication and division. By putting objects into equal groups and adding them together, Year 2 has quickly learned how to multiply. We looked at how closely addition and multiplication are linked and the children were able to solve problems by applying their knowledge of addition.

It has been a brilliant term of Science and the children have really enjoyed learning about materials. This week we have been thinking about waterproof and absorbent materials. To test waterproof materials, the children created some brilliant wax resist drawings and discovered that wax crayons are indeed waterproof but pencils and felt tips are not.

Another highlight of the week has of course been recording the Year 2 Christmas production. The children worked so hard to learn their lines, songs and dances and should be very proud of the finished performance!
