Year 2 work on Christmas… | Independent Primary School Buckinghamshire

Year 2 work on Christmas themed instructions

The final week of term has not seen us slow down in year 2 as we continued our work on instructions in English. Having written our own instructions for a ‘Rocking robin’ last week, we began the week by having a go at following written instructions to play a board game before designing and making our own Christmas themed board game and writing instructions to accompany it. We have had to think hard about being precise and detailed whilst not using too many words in our instructions. It was great fun testing out the games to see if the instructions made sense and we all have a far better knowledge of what an imperative verb is now.

Our final task was to correctly sequence a mystery set of instructions which to the children’s delight turned out to be for ‘Chocolate Rice Crispy Snowballs’.

We then had to follow the instructions to confirm that we had them in the correct order with some delicious proof that we all know how to sequence instructions now!

After huge anticipation from the children we began laying the foundations for our 2, 5 and 10 times tables in maths, using repeated addition to continue number sequences and add multiples of either 2p, 5p or 10p coins. The children also used their addition skills to add 3 single digit numbers and even 3 or more coins eg 50p + 20p + 20p = and offer different combinations of coins to make a given amount.

We hope you all have a joyful and restful Christmas holiday and look forward to seeing you in January.
