Year 3 - Great Gateway Sewing Bee
Our Gateway students put their design skills to the test in creating their own Caribbean-inspired carnival costumes. After reading the beautifully-illustrated book Malaika’s Costume by Nadia L. Hohn as part of our Caribbean topic we inherited a huge collection of rich and vibrant materials. The Year 3s busily worked in small groups, combining their creative ideas to staple, glue and sellotape a wearable costume. How they were all so different from one another.
This activity also pulled out a rich vocabulary to describe how Malaika would feel and how they would describe real costumes for their English work in the coming weeks. Watch this space because a carnival is coming to Gateway School!
