Year 3 - What causes something to move?
This was the question posed to Year 3 in Science this week. In order to answer this children were given a variety of objects to explore what made them move. We soon discovered that force was needed, either as a twist, a push or a pull. We even ventured outside to use some of the outdoor equipment to further explore push, pulling and twisting.
When we pull something we are moving it closer to us, when we push something we are moving it way from us.
We looked at balanced and unbalanced forces. If two forces are balanced then there will be no movement, we need an unbalanced force to move something. We also looked at the size of forces and the impact this has on movement. Over the coming weeks we will be exploring the effect of friction, air resistance and magnetism on forces.
