Year 4 hunt for mini beasts

During the last few weeks, year 4 have been hunting and studying mini beasts.Having already made a prediction of where we thought we would find the most snails and slugs we have just completed a search of the schoolgrounds. We had to make sure that it was a fair test by looking for the same amount of time and searching over a similar area of ground. We were surprised to find that the memorial garden was snail heaven. Although slow moving, the snails and slugs proved tricky to find, hiding under the leaves. After we had collected the data we used our maths skills to create bar charts of our findings and compare the snail numbers from different locations. Using the data we posed analytical questions to Mr Dyson such as: “ How many more snails were there in the garden than the field.”
