Year 4 and the importance of discussion
Year 4 have enjoyed developing their communication skills by working as teams and in pairs throughout their learning this week.
In English, we have been looking at the features of information texts and how they differ to other types of literature we might read. We became teams of editors, working together to discuss how differences in layout can have varying impacts on the reader of a report. It was interesting to see how different teams made decisions which resulted in a variety of layouts, all of which were visually interesting for the reader.
In Maths, we have continued to practise a variety of methods to subtract and we have especially enjoyed discussing how people use different methods to achieve an answer mentally. We revised how to set out and use the column method for more complicated subtraction calculations and even challenged ourselves to “become the teacher” when explaining our working to each other.
