Year 4 - Changing states in Science!

Year 4 children have had a busy start to the Autumn term with visits to Mr Dyson’s farm where they have made bread as part of our topic of Changing States in Science and designed buildings to withstand a tsunami. They also enjoyed meeting the new born calves who seem to find licking children’s hands delicious!

Weekly visits to Great Missenden hall for our Drama lessons have also proved to be a big hit as well as having instant access to their Chrome books which they have all been extremely responsible with.

In Maths, we are learning all about numbers and place value in a variety of fun and engaging ways. This includes playing Maths board games and representing numbers using a range of physical resources. We have dived into reasoning to challenge ourselves and apply our knowledge to different contexts.

The children have thoroughly immersed themselves into our English lessons creating an earthquake information text using their chrome books before designing a child-friendly leaflet explaining how to stay safe should an earthquake hit. Carrying on the theme, this week the children created Information posters about the 1960’s after researching Fashion, Music, School life and Holidays. Next week we dive into composing Tsunami poems using personification, metaphors and similes !

So far, we have delved deep under the earth’s crust to explore what is under our feet and discovered that the movement of tectonic plates is responsible for a range of Natural Disasters.

Last Friday, the children were challenged to create an earthquake proof structure but there was a catch !
