Year 4 investigate habitats
This week, Year 4 set out to investigate the habitat preferences of woodlice. We discussed where we might commonly find woodlice and used this to form a question and make a prediction about what kind of habitat they would prefer. In pairs, we created “habitat boxes”, which we split in half to create a habitat on each side. We then allowed woodlice to explore the habitat boxes and made a note of how many woodlice were on each half every 5 minutes. We found that woodlice prefer dark, damp and sheltered habitats which are made of of natural materials like rocks, soil and stones.
