Year 4 - Learn about Electricity
In Science, Year 4 have loved our new topic: Electricity. As an introductory activity, the children acted out a human working circuit! This gave them an opportunity to identify the equipment that is needed, such as wires and a power source. They considered that these sources can be man-made or natural.
To build on this, Year 4 tested their ideas about which components are needed to create a complete electrical circuit through exploration and discussion. Then, the children set to work creating more complex circuits and began to notice that the bulbs become dimmer if there are a greater number of them. This led to discussing theories about why this happens.
Now, Year 4 are keen to investigate using different materials to see whether they are conductors or insulators. The children have been great scientists, asking lots of scientific questions and testing hypotheses to see whether they are correct.
