Year 4 - Ready…set…bake!

Throughout this half term, Year 4 have been busy preparing for their Christmas play: Bethlehem Bake Off. The children learned their lines quickly and really brought the show to life with their enthusiasm. We have been extremely proud of all of their hard work and dedication over the last five weeks. You should be really pleased, Year 4!

Recently, in English, we have taken on the role of reporters at Pompeii after the devastating eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The children have written reports about this tragic event and they really immersed themselves in this learning. This was brought to life through the Volcanoes and Earthquakes workshop at the Natural History Museum. The children even had the opportunity to talk to a real journalist in school before writing their own articles! He is looking forward to reading them.

After the news reports, the children thought about how to create a clear picture in the reader’s mind and did this using a range of descriptive techniques. They successfully described the impact post-eruption and we were thrilled with their finished pieces.

¡FELIZ NAVIDAD! Year 4 are approaching the end of their ‘taster-term’ of Spanish in their MFL lessons. They have been enthusiastic Spanish speakers (and singers!) and also learned some facts about well-known Spanish and Mexican food, places and people, etc. The children can introduce themselves, use numbers beyond 30, talk about favourite colours and animals, and even comment on the weather… ¡ESTUPENDO!

In Design & Technology, Year 4 have been busy learning about different types of cam mechanisms. The children have combined this learning with their class topic of ‘Natural Disasters’ in order to design and construct their own cam toys. They have enjoyed testing the finished products, which have included moving tidal waves, erupting volcanoes and even a meteor shower!
