Years 5 and 6 enjoy Shakespeare's 'As You Like It'
On the evening of Friday 18th, thirty-one Shakespeare loving Year 5 and 6’s went to Pipers Corner School to watch an open air presentation of ‘As You Like It’. This has become something of a tradition for our seniors and the trip is always anticipated with great excitement. It was a lovely, balmy evening and the beautiful grounds at Pipers were the perfect setting for the play.
As always, the standard of the production was very high and the comedy of the piece really appealed to our pupils. We had already discussed the story, so the children were well prepared, although in this production the Duke became a duchess. All the actors were excellent, but the children particularly liked the hilarious Touchstone who, in turn, delighted and revolted them! The actress who played feisty Rosalind was outstanding and the play seemed remarkably modern and fresh in Fourways’ capable hands.
The behaviour of our Gateway children was excellent and they were an absolute pleasure to accompany. Their obvious enjoyment and engagement was lovely to see.
“I loved the storyline and all the mix ups. I hope I get to see another production by this group.”
“I liked the jester. He was so funny...and I know what he whispered about the banana!”
“I liked the way all the characters loved the wrong person until it was all sorted out.”
Special thanks go to Mrs Barrett and Mrs Applegate who came along to the play with us.
