Year 6 see 'Men of the Docks' painting at the National Gallery

It was with much excitement and anticipation that we set out for London on Monday. The children were looking forward to the opportunity to see this year’s Take One Picture painting in all its glory at the National Gallery.

The children were divided into two groups and, led by a member of staff from the gallery, taken to visit 3 paintings, including ‘Men of the Docks’ 1912 by American artist, George Bellows which is this year’s painting chosen by the gallery. The gallery staff engaged the pupils skilfully and there were compliments from members of the public who commented on how engaged the children were and how impressed they were by their responses to the paintings.

After lunch there was just time to pop back into the gallery to see one more painting. Some children enjoyed seeing Fauvist paintings by Matisse, others Hobein’s ‘Ambassadors’ and ‘Orpheus’ by Roelandt Savery from past Take One Picture projects.
