Year 6 study War Horse by Michael Morpurgo
Year 6 has been reading War Horse by Michael Morpurgo. This has helped with the preparatory work for Take One Picture, which, this year, is a painting by Uccello, called The Battle of San Romano. The children have decided to investigate war horses through the centuries. There are a surprising number of famous steeds!
They will research their chosen horse and then present their findings in a variety of ways. They may choose to write a short story based on facts they find, some poetry or they can simply write up their research as a magazine article. They could even reproduce their findings in the shape of a horse’s head.
We have watched an interesting film about famous war horses, produced by the National Army Museum. Pupils will be looking for different depictions of their horse in paintings, photographs, sculptures, mosaics and statues.
Do ask your child about their chosen horse. It really has proved very interesting.
