Year 2 venture down to Great Missenden

Year 2 venture down to Great Missenden

This week in Year 2 we have started our science topic of Materials. We began with some mystery objects in a bag which we had to describe without looking at them. The children had to use lots of scientific words to describe the object such as hard, smooth, heavy, flexible and rigid. We found lots of things made from wood, plastic, metal, glass and fabric and are looking forward to carrying out some investigations using materials.

On Monday we went down to Great Missenden on the search of more materials, and also looking for places of interest which we will be able to include on our maps of the village. We saw where the train station was, and also the post office, the library and the chemist. We saw some of the places and things which Roald Dahl used in some of his stories and plan to go and investigate these further next week, as we will be having fun in English looking at some of the stories and characters Roald Dahl created.
To support your child’s learning at home, you may wish to look for some materials around the house and discuss why they have been used to make certain objects.
