'Building a Team' and 'U11 Football results'
18th September 2015
Tonight is the opening game of the rugby world cup and here at Gateway School we have created a fantasy rugby league that many staff, students and parents have already entered teams for. On Thursday Mr Atkinson delivered an assembly to the seniors based on the core values of the RFU. With an inspiring video that showed the enjoyment, success and camaraderie that can be gained from being part of a sports team. It also highlights the determination, discipline and respect that can be developed from being part of a team.
As our seasons gets underway with various clubs for training, the fixtures are starting to fill up our calendar. The core values we saw in Mr Atkinson’s video can be applied to any sport and going into our first fixture, our U11s football squad were the first to display these values.
On Tuesday the U11s football squad travelled to Holmer Green school for the first round of the English Schools FA 7 a-side competition. The boys were all excited for the first competition of the season and talking tactics on the journey there.
The first game we drew, Woodrow and the boys battled hard to create chance after chance. An onslaught of attacks led to us peppering the goal, but it felt like we would never see the ball in the net. Finally the goal came and we had one win in the bag ready to take on the next two teams.
The second game was very much like the first, Holmer Green were a stronger opposition but it was our attacks that dominated the game. The Holmer Green keeper made some fantastic saves to keep them in the game. In the end we were held to a 0-0 draw.
So the last game against Great Missenden, a strong opposition and drawing on points with us with one win under their belt and a draw, if either team won it was a guaranteed qualifying spot The game was very much end to end action with both teams looking strong and could have scored if not for the keepers. Another 0-0 draw meant the qualifying teams would be decided on goal difference and although we kept a clean sheet, the other two teams had scored more in their winning games. A disappointing end to some great football but keep up the good work lads and the goals will come.
