Chiltern and South Bucks League Match - 14 November

This was a crunch fixture against local rivals Great Missenden, as the winner has a very good chance of going on to win the league. Gateway had Ollie B making his debut in midfield and Oscar V-B returning to play in attack. A few positional chances saw Henry G playing upfront and Will SC-B in defence. The game was very open and competitive with Great Missenden controlling and passing the ball better in the opening 10 minutes but with Gateway doing enough to frustrate their attack. Both teams created chances and just after missing a great opportunity Gateway were caught out, on the counter attack, to go one -nil down. A second goal followed after a similar break away that Gateway had several chances to clear. It was good to see the boys battle their way back into the match with a well worked move that Henry G slotted home confidently, from just inside the box. Gt Missenden scored again, just before half-time, after a spell of heavy pressure.

The second half was just as exciting as the first, with a great end to end game that left the spectators gasping as shoots rained in from all angles. Gateway created at least 6 good scoring opportunities but the Missenden goalie, along with a slice of good fortune, kept Gateway from narrowing the lead. Great Missenden also created a string of chances but the Gateway defence showed dogged resilience to keep them at bay. This was a game that either team could have won but Missenden deserved to win because of their more clinical passing and finishing!
