Democracy at its best

Those of you who attended the Curriculum/Meet The Teacher evenings will have heard all about our exciting new School Parliament, if you hadn’t already heard about it from your children! This new initiative builds on the good practice that was already taking place here at Gateway School. The aim is to increase pupil participation in the development of everything Gateway! Empowering the children to problem solve and make decisions about how to improve our school. This week has seen hustings taking place across the school, right from Reception to Year 6. These ranged from simply standing up in front of the class and saying a line about why they wanted the role to more in depth, prepared speeches. All children have voted for their class representatives for the new charities, community, food and environment committees who will feed into our Parliament, democracy at its best! The children from these committees will be in touch with their plans in the not too distant future.
