House Poetry - Weeks commencing 5th and 12th November

Verse speaking has long been a tradition at Gateway and we continue to believe in the value that this brings to developing memory, confidence and self esteem. ‘Speaking and Listening’ is an important element of the English curriculum as well as a vital life skill.

Your child will bring home a poem this week. Please help them to learn this so that they can recite it to their class. Encourage them to speak slowly, to use a loud voice and add plenty of expression when presenting it. For those who are new to Gateway, please don’t let your child worry about this. The presentations are handled in a relaxed and age appropriate manner to ensure that all feel successful.

There are lots of video clips on You tube of Michael Rosen presenting his work which might inspire. Chocolate Cake is a favourite of mine. Link

Walk to School Week - Striving Strides

Well done to all those who have been involved with Walk to School Week this week. Across the school, every Year group was well represented and a good deal of traffic was diverted away from school. House points will be tallied and shared in assembly next week.

Don't forget the Evening and Weekend Walking Challenge will run until the end of Sunday 14th October. If there is a journey you and your children could make by foot rather than by car, please send a picture to rwallace@gatewaysch.co.uk with a short explanation. Don't forget to mention the children's year group and house as these walks will also count towards the house totals. Here are some photos.
