Gateway Preschool Phonics Workshop

Gateway Preschool Phonics Workshop

Earlier this week, Gateway Preschool parents headed into school for a dedicated phonics workshop. Mrs Cheal, Miss Noakes and Mrs Woods explained the phonics programme that is used at Gateway School. The programme, especially targeted for our Early Years learners, is made up of the most effective parts from three key phonics schemes: SALLEY; Letters & Sounds Phase 1; and Read, Write, Inc. Focusing on developing phonological awareness, the programme aims to build the fundamental skills children need to become confident readers and spellers. As well as learning some letter sounds and applying them in different contexts, the children are encouraged to explore body percussion, to hear and recognise rhyme, to listen to different musical instruments, and lots more.

Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend and get involved in the interactive workshop. If you weren't able to attend, but would like to find out more, the session was recorded and is available for Gateway parents.
