What a fantastic experience Gateway School Choir had on Tuesday 11th February. The choir were lucky enough to take part in a concert at the Wycombe Swan Theatre – ‘Rock the Night Away!’- which followed our Sign2Sing event the previous week. The concert was organised to raise money for Sign Health.

The 220 strong Dunstable Rock Choir started the concert with some lively, rousing songs, such as ‘Just the way you are’ by Bruno Mars. Also taking part was a ladies vocal trio – the Rockabellas- who entertained us with some fantastic close harmony singing and quirky dance moves.

Our choir of 36 have been working really hard for the past half term and had learnt two songs especially for the occasion – ‘Pure Imagination’ from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and ‘When I grow up’ from Matilda. There were a few backstage nerves, but the children rose to the occasion and really enjoyed taking part. They all sang both confidently and expressively.

Towards the end of the concert, they sang and signed the song ‘Get up and sign’, the 2014 official Sign2Sing song, with Pippa Gearing, the composer. All pupils from Reception to Year 6 also performed this song in assembly last week.

As a finale, the Rock Choir and Gateway Choir signed and sang in a massed performance of another song composed by Pippa Gearing – ‘As One’. All in all, a tremendous event. Thank you to all the parents and staff who supported us.
