Gateway Summer Concert

Gateway Summer Concert

On Tuesday 27th June we held our annual Gateway Summer Concert. The concert was held to showcase all the before and after school music clubs and activities that go on at Gateway.

An audience of around 130 parents and friends were treated to Pimms and strawberries before what was to be a musical extravaganza of musical styles, from Handel to Coldplay. The evening began with 'Can you hear my voice?' sung by the 40 strong Senior Choir, with a lovely solo sung by Sophie M. Next, Chamber Choir reprised the two songs they sang at the National Choral Competition - 'I am the wind' and 'Stronger with time' and after Ukelele group wowed us by playing and singing two pieces - 'Calypso' and 'Autumn Leaves', Junior Choir sang 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Gravity' beautifully. The Recorder Ensemble performed four short pieces for us and Staff Choir entertained us with a programme of well known songs, including 'Thinking out Loud' by Ed Sheeran'. Well done to our three wonderful soloists, Mr Bridges, Mrs Barrett and Mrs O'Hare! Senior Choir sang a couple of a capella favourites - 'Maliswe', which they last sang at the O2 and 'Viva la musica'. Mr Wallace and Jack I played a a graceful Minuet on their trumpets followed by Trumpet Club, who played a brisk March by Snell. Chamber Choir sang their second set with some very challenging part singing - 'Castle on a Cloud' from Les Miserables and 'Windmills of your Mind' by Michel Legrand. The mood soon changed and Orchestra treated us to a rhythmic 'Tango' and a snappy 'Cha- Cha'; it was great to hear a trombone and bassoon playing in these pieces. Senior Choir took to the stage once more and sang 'I can see clearly now' and Coldplay's 'Viva la Vida', which has been a challenge this term. Following this, Chamber Choir sang their last song, the beautiful Blues spiritual, 'Happy Land', with guest soloist Mrs Izard!

The evening ended on an emotional high - all the choirs joined forces for a performance of 'You raise me up' What a truly fantastic evening! Thank you to all the staff, parents and friends for their encouragement and enthusiastic applause and for supporting us.
