From April to July, all the children (Years 3-6) compete in 6 field events (3 jumps and 3 throws) with the top 3 girls and boys in each year group scoring points for their House. These points are added to the running events to give the overall totals and decide which House wins the Sports Athletics Cup.

Field Event totals

Barnardo 89
Brunel 72
Jenner 72
Seacole 65

A full set of results was detailed in the Sports Day programme. Well done to Will SCB who made Gateway history by becoming the first competitor to win all 6 field events and then went on to win his sprint final and the 500m.

The beauty of the Chilterns provides a wonderful backdrop to the Misbourne’s playing fields and athletic facilities making a lovely green environment to compete in. The weather forecast threatened light drizzle but by the time the Year 3 and Year 4 children arrived conditions were ideal for running.

All the children participated in the sprint finals, trying their best to win and score points for their House. As usual, there were some very strong performances, throughout the Year groups, and lots of ‘photo’ finishes. The 500m challenged all the runners, and their were some gritty performances that won approval from the spectators.

Year 3 and 4 totals

Barnardo 122, (211) Brunel 118, (190) Jenner 110, (182) Seacole 115 (180)
After the Year 5 and 6 sprints finals, 500m and fun races the competition was still close.
Barnardo 126, (337) Brunel 134, (324) Jenner 136, (318) Seacole 140 (320)

The day was full of excitement and despite the odd bump or bruise most of the children seemed to enjoy all the different races and challenges involved, especially in the Fun Race relays. It was a great way to finish another successful athletics season. After the Senior relays, Seacole children were delighted to hear that they had won the Year 5 and 6 competition. When the relays results were added to all the other totals, Barnardo was victorious in the overall competition. Mrs La Farge congratulated all the competitors, thanked supporters for their rousing encouragement and the staff and extra volunteers for helping the day run so smoothly. Roisin G and Harry S. stepped forward to collect the cup! HJ
