House Cross Country - Years 4, 5 and 6
12th December 2014
Forty-two Year 6 children competed over the same 1800m course as last year. The children had practised the course in September and club runners are quite familiar with it. The arrival of sheep on this land in November had cast doubt over this venue and event but luckily the sheep disappeared as quickly as they had appeared allowing the competition to take place. There were several noticeable absentees due to ill health and several Year r6 girls were disappointed to miss out having to visit their next school on the day.
The conditions were ideal for running. The top 10 runners from each House scored points. There were some excellent performances throughout the field and 34 children set new personal bests, reflecting increasing levels of fitness and determination.

Sixty-one Year 5 children competed over the same course and distance as Year 6. Conditions were very cold but firm underfoot. Here again the children were challenged by beating their personal best time, set in September, as well as doing their best for their House. Fifty children succeeded in improving their times, despite several children not feeling 100 per cent as they recovered from recent coughs and colds.

Barnardo has dominated House cross-country running for many years, winning the competition 7 times in succession. That was until Seacole broke this spell last year, and now Jenner can add their name to the cup! Well done to all those children who gave their best; it has been a wonderful to witness the determination and camaraderie this year!
Good luck to all those runners that compete in the local schools’ competition at Amersham on 24 January 2015. Please refer to the Sports notice board for team selection and further information.
