House Writing

The theme for this competition was a bedtime story about friendship. This meant that the story could not be too scary and was designed to be shared with a younger reader. There were so many lovely ideas about what friendship means; many of them told through friendly animals such as rabbits, squirrels and mice. It was very difficult for Mrs Kemp to choose just one winner. In the end, she picked Lillie J (Year 6) and Noah G (Year 1) as runners up and Milly A (Year 6) as the winner. Her story, Rosie’s wish, was a moving story about a girl seeking friendship but not knowing how to make friends. A visit from Monny, who is only visible to her, helps her to find the confidence she needs to join in with games in the playground and finally find the friends she craves. Well done Milly.

Everyone who entered was awarded points for their house with the winner earning 50 and runners up 25.

Brunel were the overall winners.

House Poetry

Mrs La Farge, Mr Grosse, the other Mrs Kemp and I have had a really enjoyable week listening to the children from across the school presenting their poems. There have been some very confident and engaging performances, demonstrating lovely expression, varied tone and super diction. I was hugely impressed by the all of the reception children who had learnt The Toy’s Playtime by Tony Mitten so well. At the other end of the school, the year six children had all chosen their own poem and their performances were really amazing, showing great maturity. I was very proud of them all and reflected on their increased confidence, maturity and engagement with the words. Public speaking is a life skill which many do not find easy but the children rose to the challenge, overcame any nerves and many said that they had enjoyed the experience.

House winner: It was a very close competition with only 39 points separating 1st and 4th Seacole just pipped Jenner to the title this year.
