ISA National Swimming Gala

ISA National Swimming Gala

This year the ISA finals were held at the amazing Olympic Pool in London. The five children from Gateway who took part were very lucky to be able to say they have swum in the same pool as famous Olympians and Paralympians.

All the children earned their places in the finals by being selected from the regional round to swim for London North. Chantel O (year 6) was the first to compete swimming the 50m breaststroke. She performed amazingly well and gained a silver in that event. She also took part in the medley relay, again swimming breaststroke, this event had an exciting close finish with the London North finishing in 4th place.

All the other Gateway children took part in relays only; Zach R (year 6), in both the medley and the freestyle relay swimming the front crawl, in which he performed extremely well finishing 6th and 5th respectively. Jessica C (year 6) swam the final leg of the freestyle relay, an immensely difficult leg, as the team were so far behind that she had at least 40m to just catch up with the others. She tried her very best and caught up so well, however, the team finished in 7th. Hannah M (year 5) also swam in the freestyle relay and along with her team swam powerfully and reached 2nd place gaining a silver medal. Abigail H (year 4) was a reserve called in at the last minute, she really performed well and swam at a similar speed as the others helping her team into 6th position.

I am very proud of all the pupils for their enthusiastic and confident performance. They swam with great effort and I am sure they enjoyed the day as much as I did. Well done to you all!
