ISA North London Cross Country finals - 24 January 2018

Twenty four runners selected from Y3-6 competed for Gateway in the ISA North London cross country finals, at Bedford.

The Year 3 and 4 children ran 1.3km, the Y5 and 6 girls 1.65 km and the boys 2.1km. Heavy rain had left the course muddy and waterlogged. Once wet, the children had to bare up to the cold. This proved challenging for all of the runners and even with a warm up the runners looked pretty daunted on the start line. There were 18 schools competing with some races having over 80 runners in.

The Year 5 and 6 girls may have done even better,in this event, had the organisers made it clearer that their race had been shortened from 2.1km to 1.65km. Some of the girls had been pacing themselves for the longer ‘advertised’ distance and were surprised to see competitors sprinter to the finishing line after the 1st lap! Beth T did really well to complete the course, after being ‘spiked’ on her toe, by another runner, after just 100m.
