ISA North London Cross Country Finals, Bedford - Thursday 9 February
10th February 2017
Twenty four runners selected from Y3-6 competed for Gateway in the ISA North London cross country finals at Bedford.
The Y3 and 4 children ran 1.3km and the Y5 and 6 ran 2.1km. The ground conditions were the best we have seen at Bedford for many years with just the odd muddy patch to negotiate. There were up to 16 schools competing with some races having over 90 runners in.
All our runners showed great determination and ability but the Year 6 girls* deserve special praise; after being told they only had to run 1.3km, this decision was changed, as they waited on the starting line, where they were informed that they would run the full 2.1km course. In normal circumstances this would not have been an issue but having played in, and won, the ISA football competition (involving 10 matches), the day before, the girls knew that fatigued was much more likely to hinder their performance. They competed extremely well but we know they would have done even better had they had a little more time to recover.
