ISA Regional Athletics Finals 2018 Full Report
18th May 2018
With Year 5 at Ironbridge, Year 4 and 6 squads travelled to Bedford International Athletics Stadium to compete along with 16 other schools in the North London Finals. For some children it is an achievement to be selected for the school team, as competition is fierce for places, especially the Year 4 squad. Some children were hoping to gain a medal position and possibly a place in the National finals. The top eight in each event scored points for their school..

There were lots of excellent performances, despite some of the squad feeling disappointed that they didn’t produce their best performance on the day. This is often the case, in such a tense atmosphere where the slightest mistake can be heavily punished. All the relay teams qualified for the finals. Having spent time practising and perfecting a running baton changeover, they were shocked to discover the race was to be run as a shuttle, rather than the traditional ‘round the track’ format. It took the edge off their excitement but all the teams gave their best and the Y4 boys lifted everyone’s spirits with a stunning victory.
Well done to all the squad and to Katie A (600m) Marea Logan (600) Will SC-B and the Year 4 relay team who all move forward to represent London North at the National Finals in Birmingham, in June. We are still trying to clarify whether Zach C has also qualified for the 600m final.
