Key Stage One

Key Stage One

This week has been a very exciting first full week in key stage one The children are settling into their busy new routines very well and seem to be really enjoying their new classes!

In Year 1 this week in English we have been focusing on using labels to give information to a picture and also using captions. To begin with the children used labels to describe a picture of their face and we had lots of fun adding in some adjectives too! Towards the end of the week the children wrote captions to go with the the story of the Gruffalo. The children were very thoughtful, in their captions, and all had a go at using a describing word! In Maths this week we have been working on writing the numbers to 10 and recognising dice patterns to 6. Using our senses we explored the school environment.

Year 2 have enjoyed estimating challenges in maths. In English they have extended their vocabulary learning about antonyms- words with opposite meanings. In Humanities, the children looked at a map of the UK, finding countries and capital cities. They identified Great Missenden on a map and made a key.

Homework

All children will have a new My Best front cover to decorate for their folder. Children will also have some reading, maths and spelling homework sent home weekly. Homework books should be sent into school on a Thursday and will be sent home on a Friday. This will be linked with the work the children have been studying in class. Children have a week to complete their homework, please don’t worry if your child is too tired to complete their homework one week as it is optional. We hope you enjoy a relaxing weekend.
