PE Department - U9, U10 and U11 Cricket v Thorpe House

PE Department - U9, U10 and U11 Cricket v Thorpe House

Following the success of our football matches a fortnight ago, we welcomed back Thorpe House this week for cricket.

It all started on Tuesday afternoon and despite the constantly changing weather forecast we agreed that we would ‘give it a go’ in the hope that we could squeeze our first U9 cricket matches of the year in between the rain showers. It seemed as though the gamble had been a success as the sun shone on both venues (Sprinters and Ballinger) on our arrival but things took a turn for the worse and after around 20 minutes we were, unfortunately, forced to abandon the game at Sprinters. Conditions weren’t quite as bad at the Ballinger site and play continued long enough to ascertain that the Gateway team were playing some excellent cricket but eventually this game was also curtailed due to heavy rain.

Wednesday’s weather was much brighter and two U11 mixed gender teams took to the cricket field. These games were well contested and played in an excellent spirit with Gateway eventually coming out on top in terms of the scoreline at both venues. Mr Roberts noted that the Ballinger team’s decision making was good when deciding when to run and when to stay safe, and Miss Gallop was impressed with the improvement of the fielding in the game played at Sprinters.

At the time of writing, we are looking forward to the final fixtures with Thorpe House with two U10 teams playing on Friday afternoon.
