As we enter the second half of this term, it is a busy time on the sports fields with fixtures being played against a number of other schools in sports such as rugby, hockey and cross country. The hard work that the students have been putting into Games lessons was clearly evident during the rugby matches against Thorpe House & Gayhurst and the hockey matches against Pipers Corner. The students displayed excellent commitment, teamwork and sportsmanship with a number of spectators commenting on their impressive displays. It has been fantastic to see so many students representing Gateway School in fixtures and the teams have been an absolute credit to the school, as well as achieving some superb results.
On the 16 October we had over 50 students competing in the second Primary Schools Cross Country race at Hervines Park. It was a hugely successful morning for the Gateway School Cross Country teams, with a number of students winning individual medals, the U11 Boys team placing 2nd in the team race and the U9 Girls team placing 3rd. A big thank you to all the parents who brought their children to the race and stood in torrential rain to support the runners.
In Physical Education and Games lessons the students have now moved on to new activities and sports. For many this means Dance where we have already seen some wonderfully creative and imaginative ideas coming out in the different year groups. We are all looking forward to seeing the students performing their Christmas Dances which Miss Gallop is currently busy creating. In Games the boys are now getting the chance to develop their hockey skills and the girls their rugby. The Year 4 girls have impressed us with their hardworking and supportive approach to rugby over the last few weeks and they are clearly enjoying developing their skills in this sport. They have made excellent progress with their understanding of the game.
