Physical Education and Games news

Over the last few weeks we have completed our final fixtures of what has been a very successful Autumn term. All students in Years 3 to 6 have been given the opportunity to represent the school in a number of sports including Rugby, Football, Hockey and Cross Country. Despite losing a number of games to the wet weather we still managed to participate in over 30 fixtures and competitions this term. One of our last events was the second primary schools cross country race which was held at Hervines Park in Amersham. We had over 40 runners participate across a number of age groups and all the runners managed to complete the course successfully. There were a number of excellent individual performances with Gateway students winning a total of five medals.

In Games lessons during the final weeks of term, students have been participating in House matches and it has been great to see the students displaying the skills they have worked so hard to develop in lessons. In Physical Education lessons this term a whole range of activities have been taught including Basketball, Handball, Gymnastics, Dance, Problem Based Games and Object Control to name but a few. Recently, the Preschool students have been working on balances and shapes in lessons with some excellent results. The older students have been busy creating their own Christmas themed gym and dance performances which they will be performing to their peers before the end of term.

Congratulations to Mr Roberts who completed his 3000 push ups in November. As part of his challenge at the recent Charity day Mr Roberts challenged many of the students to complete a set of push ups. As ever the Gateway students rose to the challenge and helped him reach a total of 5900 push ups in the month.
