Physical Education and Games News

It has been a rather wet and cold start to the term, but this has in no way dampened the students' spirits in Physical Education and Games lessons. Students have been working hard in Games lessons, developing their skills and understanding in preparation for the first fixtures of the term. It is a relatively short term but we have much to look forward to on the sports field. We have a busy schedule of fixtures in netball, football and cross country running throughout the term. There are a number of netball and football tournaments to look forward to as well as the final cross country races of the year. We also have a number of House events including football, netball and my personal favourite, the House Cross Country.

In Physical Education we are teaching a number of different activities across the school. The main focus for students in Year 3 to Year 6 is Gymnastics and Sportshall Athletics. In Gymnastics, the students have been developing their forwards rolls and will be moving on to backwards rolls and handstands before choreographing their own routines. The Sportshall Athletics programme includes a range of fun activities that help students develop their running, jumping and throwing skills. It provides an excellent grounding in preparation for the athletics that we will do in the summer term. It is also an opportunity for students to develop their leadership and teamwork skills as they are required to perform and time or measure the activities in small groups. Students in Reception to Year 2 are focusing this term on developing their gymnastics skills and their ball skills through netball and football activities.
