Preschool - Marvellous Me, music and monsters

We have had a great start to the new term! Thank you for all your help settling in the new and returning children so smoothly. A big welcome to all our new families. Please get in touch if you have any questions.

Our topic this half term is Marvellous Me, where we are celebrating all of the fantastic things that make us, us! We have been reading Titch, looking at growing and what it means to be ‘big’, exploring feelings with The Colour Monster and getting started on exciting projects with The Dot.

Like the rest of the school, our specialist lessons are in full swing, we have been investigating movement in PE, expanding our knowledge of the wider world in French and making lots of lovely tunes with Mr Mitchener in music. We have even been lucky enough to have some special helpers from Year 6 pop into our specialist sessions to enrich our learning.

This year the children are fully involved in planning their own learning through our big Floor Book. Children learn better if they are involved in planning how and what they learn. We have some fabulous examples of their work and comments on what they have been doing in this book. Parents are very welcome to add to our planning at any time!.

A highlight of our first few weeks was creating observational paintings of sunflowers. We used magnifying glasses to look closely at the different parts of the flowers and then got stuck into the yellow paint to create the petals. We recreated the seeds using ripped up black tissue paper. We have also been painting Colour Monsters using a whole rainbow of colour to show different feelings.

We have also been busy refreshing our memory of the phonics we learned last year. We now have a number, shape and letter of the week which we will focus on which is displayed on our new notice board by the door. This information is taught during group times and then reiterated throughout the week through various games and activities, such as using syringes to clean specific numbers from the playground.
