Preschool - stick families and Santa Dash

Preschool - stick families and Santa Dash

This week in Preschool we have been getting ready for Christmas.

On Monday, we joined the rest of the school in the Santa dash. It was so much fun! The children ran around the school track for 5 minutes, while listening to Christmas music. The children were all amazing and put a lot of effort into the challenge; supporting each other and showing determination and resilience when they found it difficult. We were very proud of their efforts and they were all very proud of themselves too when they had finished.

The story we have looked at this week is Stickman. A festive favourite which enables a lot of learning through a lovely story. We listened to the story and then we decided to head down to the field to see if we could find stickman for ourselves. While we were there, we looked and collected as many sticks as we could find to bring back to the room. We were surprised by how many stickmen we could find and worked together to bring them back. When we had returned to Preschool, we used some pipe cleaners and eyes to bring our stickmen to life! We talked about the different size sticks and discussed which member of the stickman family our sticks could be.

Once we had created our stickmen, we made snow for them to play in, and linked this back to the story and how stickman loves playing in the snow. We used the stick family as a discussion point to talk about our own families and the similarities and differences we can notice, and the children then drew their families.

The Preschool room has been decorated, and we have been busy creating Christmas crafts to take home. The children have enjoyed exploring the different materials to create their decorations and cards and practising their mark making by writing letters or creating drawings for Father Christmas.

Finally, we would like to say “thank you” to the parents for their very generous gifts and cards that they have sent in to the preschool staff. They are much appreciated. We hope all the Preschool children and their families have a wonderful Christmas and very happy New Year.
